Baby View

Baby View is a great way to stimulate eye co-ordination and focus in babies in the formative months of their lives.
It is a well known fact that that while babies are very young, and their sight is developing, their vision is much more attuned to black and white, high contrast images.
Babies love bright and sharp images. You can see their eyes light up and their interest is visibly raised when presented with these strong images. Add to that the extra dimensions of movement and sound, and your baby will be suitably impressed!
Baby View contains a variety of simple and interactive scenes for you to play through while your baby watches and learns with your help!

***** Mega 5 star review!
Just received this great review for Baby View on the UK App Store!
The only downside is that I have no way to get in contact and personally thank the author - so, if this was you, thanks so much and I'm very glad that Baby View was able to help your son :D
(Also, if you get in contact with me, I'll give you free codes for all the full versions of my other apps too!)

This app has been a god send! - My son is now 5 and a half months old.. He was born with a congenital cataract and had to have surgery to have it removed at 6 weeks old. After the operation in order to develop sight in this eye, we had to put a patch over his good eye for 4 hours a day. As you can imagine this was very difficult as he had to develop sight in his bad eye. He didn't seem to be able to see much at all. During the time he was patched all he did was scream and I knew that I had to try and stimulate his eye as much as I could. Initially i tried to use toys and books but he just did not seem interested. He was too small to physically play and hold the books and they did not seem to get his attention. Then i knew that i had to find something else and after trawling the Internet that's when I came across baby view on you tube. The compilation of images was great, very different to the usual boring black and white picture images. To begin with I did not get much of a reaction to the images, but he loved the music. I made sure he watched this daily when his eye was patched to stimulate him and to develop the sight in his bad eye. As the days passed the more he could see as I could tell this by his reactions to the images, squealing, giggling and laughing with delight and when I moved my phone around he followed the images. It caught my sons attention and kept it as the images were clear, crisp, bright and the music was fun and because they moved and changed this kept him gripped. He made so much progress.. I now have the app on my phone which he loves.. I put it in front of him when he's in his bouncer and he laughs and has so much fun and I know that this is stimulating his eye too. When I'm out and about or on public transport if hes upset I show him the images and this immediately gets his attention, crying stops and he's giggling in no time! Definitely recommend this app to everyone, great for developing sight, tracking and a fun tool to entertain your baby. Thank you so much for inventing this! :))))

Another great 5 star review from the UK - Thanks Olivia's parents!!...

Amazing! - We bought this app when our baby was born as she was diagnosed with a congenital catharact in one eye but couldn't be operated as the eye had no chance of recuperating sight. We were so worried not knowing what she could and could not see! We showed her the first screens when she was only a few days old and now that she's 8 months she knows what to touch in each screen and loves it! It's been her favourite thing since she was really little and it's great to see she interacts so well, we believe stimulating her sight really helped her even if we still don't know how much she can see.The only thing we would suggest for the upgrade is if you could link the help page somewhere where it's not as accessible (as she always ends up on the facebook link!) and if you could make the house that sends you back to the menu smaller as she keeps pressing it and ends up just jumping from one screen to the other before it's even been loaded sometimes!!Many thanks! Olivia and her parents

...And yes, I promise I'll be changing the home button and links access. I'll probably make a 'Parents Zone' that's really hard to get to!

  1. I accidentally pressed auto mode on the app and can't seem to turn it off. The pages now permanently stay on for only about 5 seconds. Any idea how to turn auto mode off?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Hi Anon! Sorry for your trouble. The first thing to try is to press the home button before auto mode has a chance to switch screen for you. Press the house in the top left corner and once it is larger and more visible press it again - this should take you back to the menu screen.
The other way to stop auto mode would be to restart the app - this was simple before iOS became more clever at keeping your apps open for you when you turn them off! What you'll need to do to properly reset the app is this...
    1. Quit the app as normal, back to your normal home screen on the device.
    2. Double click the home button on the device (the REAL button!)
    3. Baby View should appear on the left as your most recently closed app.
    4. This is actually Baby View 'still running', so if you pressed it now, you would go straight back to the app, still stuck in auto mode. So...
    5. Press and HOLD the Baby View icon.
    6. A small red minus sign will appear on the top left of the icon.
    7. Carefully press that minus sign.
    8. The icon will shrink away to let you know that the app is properly closed.
    9. Press anywhere on the main screen to get back to the device's normal screen.
    10. Restart Baby View.

    Hope this helps?

    1. Hi Anon, sorry to hear you're having trouble - this sound issue does crop up from time to time, but is usually fixed by resetting the app fully. Please follow the 10 steps in the post above to fully reset the app, I'm sure it'll help! Please mail me at Slowboy(at)talktalk(dot)net if this doesn't help, and I'll go through it with you - also, please repost here if it does!
Oh, if you're using an Android device, go into the 'apps' section in the device's settings and select Baby View - there should be an option there to 'Force Stop' the app. Please let me know how you get on.
      Thanks

    1. Hi, from your description, I'm taking a guess that you are talking about the Mac version? If not, please let me know which device you are using?
Assuming it IS on the Mac, this sounds like a problem with Spotlight - it doesn't know that you've deleted the app...
As far as I can remember, you will need to tell Spotlight to stop indexing your drive, then immediately tell it to start indexing it again! This forces Spotlight to forget all the stuff it 'thought' it knew about what you have installed or not, then take a fresh look at everything again, hopefully now realizing that Baby View is now uninstalled!..

      1. Go into System Preferences
      2. Choose 'Spotlight' from the top row.
      3. Go to the 'Privacy' tab.
      4. Click the + button at the bottom.
      5. In the dialog that appears, click your username at the top, in the middle.
      6. Select 'Mac' fromt the dropdown list.
      7. Click 'Choose'
      8. Click OK when you are asked "Are you sure you want Spotlight to stop searching in 'Mac'?"
      9. Mac is now added to the list of places you want to prevent Spotlight from searching.
      10. Now we want to take it straight back off that list!..
      11. Select 'Mac' on the list.
      12. Press the - button at the bottom.

You should now notice that the Spotlight icon in the top right of your screen now has a pulsing dot in the centre of it - this means that Spotlight is now indexing your system from scratch - this could take an hour or two!
Hopefully, when it's all settled down, your list of installed apps should be more accurate!
Please repost to let me (and others) know if this helps - also, please post if it doesn't!
As always, please feel free to email me directly at Slowboy(at)talktalk(dot)net
      Hope this helps, best wishes!

  7. Hi,

I have the paid version on the iPad andd my kids constantly are hitting the help button and from there getting onto Facebook. A baby can't help where their hands land and this is becoming very annoying and am thinking of deleting it altogether. I have to remove their hands from the iPad to get out of Facebook then back into the app, this normally results in lots of screaming from the kids. Do you have any comments on this or plans to fix this problem?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Hi MumaK, Apologies, and yes, I am in the process of updating Baby View as we speak, and will certainly be addressing issues such as this! The main problem I get comments about is the home button being too easy to hit accidentally, so this help/facebook one is new to me, but totally understandable because they're both in the bottom right of the screen. I'm absolutely going to make the 'parent' parts of the app more child proof, so please bear with me till then!
Also please do let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions if you would like to see this handled in a particular way?
Thanks for getting in touch, and sorry for the screaming!

I had a go at publishing for Windows 8 a while back, but had some issues and kind of gave up for the time being. I've just done a clean reinstall of 8 though, last one was an update over 7, so I might try again sometime!
I'm updating Baby View right now, so once I've got the update finished I might have a peek into Windows world again. To be brutally honest though, I wouldn't advise holding your breath - If it takes more than three clicks, I ain't got time! Sorry :D D:

    1. Hi Vera, I'll get onto this right away!

I've tested it quickly on my iOS7 iPhone, and it seems to crash out on certain screens and then be ok on others.

I'll definitely try and get an update out as soon as possible, but please bear with me! The thing is, that even if I had a fix right now, and uploaded that fix up to Apple right now, we'd still have to wait for at least 2-3 weeks before Apple got around to approving it and putting it on the store so that you can update.

It's a pain, but that's just how it works.

So, until then, I'm really sorry and hopefully most screens work - perhaps it is only certain screens and if you avoid those ones, it may not crash? I'll look into it and see if I can figure out which scenes are problematic.

Please feel free to email me at slowboy (at) talktalk (dot) net for any more info!

Thanks for letting me know as well!!

    1. orry for your trouble Max! Here's a reply I made earlier to Inge, I'm sure she won't mind me reusing it!....

With regards to the coming update - I'll let you in on a secret - I've already uploaded the new versions of all my apps to Apple, which definitely fix the iOS7 crashing problem, so that's good. What's not good it that Apple have rejected these apps because they no longer conform to the new 'parental gating' criteria that Apple are now enforcing as a part of the new apps for children category. So, unfortunately I need to do a bit more work on EVERY app to make it harder for little fingers to accidentally end up on Facebook, or in the app store etc. That's totally fair enough and something that I definitely wanted to address in the updates, it's just that now I kind of have to go back and retrofit it to the older version of the apps so that I can get working versions back up and keep iOS7 customers happy! All in all it shouldn't put me back much more than a week or two, but like I mentioned, once you add on Apple's approval process it all starts to add up!

      In the meantime....
I do have an alternative! You can pop over to my YouTube channel and watch the apps running there! It's really 'almost' like having the apps if you make it full screen, and a couple of the videos are an hour long, so you won't need to keep restarting the video. They're all here on YouTube!!

      https://www.youtube.com/user/Slowboy71/videos

These two are an hour long, classical music or white noise, and mostly just the black and white scenes...

      Classical Music
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFKYQdIer08

      White Noise & Heartbeat
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2i8lTIZ4z2I

And this one is shorter, only 15 minutes, but it runs through the entire app, all scenes...

      Baby View Run-through
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jv_iVQdkuuM
The only other problem with this video is that it was initially intended as merely a run-through of the app, so I guess the scenes change a little too often for it to be as useful? I'd actually really appreciate it if you would let me know which kind of videos (and app functions) would be most useful to you and your children. I'm definitely intending to make a lot more videos and would like to make them as useful to you as possible, so please feel free to suggest anything!

Hopefully the vids will tide you over till I finally get the apps past Apple's stringent review process, and again, super glad the apps are useful and thanks for not giving me one star :D

    1. Very sorry about this! I only found out last night after another customer commented on Facebook! I think it must be because of the new parental gate buttons I put in. When I need the tic toc sound to stop, when you let go of a button, I tell the game to 'stop music', even though it's not actually music, but that's the only way I could tell it to stop; so it seems that this must be also breaking the music on the carousel - sorry, I didn't notice this :L
I am currently super busy doing a proper big fat update for Baby View, so please bear with me and I will make doubly sure that it works before releasing the update!

    1. Hi Danny, thanks for the info! Unfortunately, I'm not sure that I can do much about it :l
It's kind of inevitable that the game will eventually run out of memory at some point, it's just bound to happen from time to time, and the software that I use to create the apps does not allow me to manage memory so closely.

  15. The latest update of baby view on iOS now stretches all the "games" to fit the iPhone 5 screen. The downside of this is instead of utilizing the real estate of the screen, it literally stretches all the shapes (circles look like ovals now). It almost hurts to look at. Could you please revert this change?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hi Kaveh, sorry about this, but it's a necessary evil at the moment! I'm trying to work my way up to cross compatibility one step at a time. It took me a while to get around to fully using the iPhone 5 screen, and I am definitely aware of the stretching. This is why I held off from doing it for so long. But now, I think I need to treat the iPhone 5 as the primary target device, and will continue to do so from this point on, meaning that when I update again, I will definitely be looking into getting the oval issue fixed, at least that one, even if I can't do the rest! It's only me making all the Hey Bear apps, so there's only a certain amount that I can get done in each update, but rest assured, I am aware of the stretching, and will try to sort it out in the future!
    Thanks for getting in touch!

  17. Hi,

we've been using the Babyview app for a while but since a few weeks ago, the music and audio will suddenly stop all together after just a few mins of play.

I first thought my baby was doing something so I watched her play with it, but she isn't doing anything differently. Stopping and restarting the app doesn't do anything. It will suddenly work again after a day, but then after a few mins of play, the audio will stop again. My baby gets really upset when the audio stops and it really limits the apps usefulness as the amazing pictures, movements and music all together were just incredible and it's just not the same without the audio. Why is it doing this and has anyone else noticed this, too?

    We use an iPad.

    Thanks

    1. Hi Annie, yes, it's a known issue, sorry about this! It's fixable temporarily by resetting the app, but I'm also waiting on a permanent fix. Please keep an eye out for the next update which should fix the issue once and for all! In the meantime, if you do lose sound, please fully reset Baby View using these instructions...

      How to reset your app.

Most problems regarding erratic or unexpected behaviour within any given app can be solved by fully restarting the app using the following method. Please note that using the Home button on your device does not fully restart it, it merely pauses, so when you reopen the app again, any issues you are experiencing may still be present. You must follow the method below exactly in order to fully reset your app and hopefully solve any problems you may be having.

      iOS 6

Press the Home button (the physical button on your device) to close the app and return to your device's home page.
Double click the home button to reveal the recent apps list at the bottom of the screen.
The app you want to reset should be the first on this list, on the left.
Press and HOLD the app's icon until it begins to wobble and a red minus sign appears on its corner.
      Tap the minus sign
The app icon will shrink away. It is now fully closed and will start afresh next time you open the app.
Tap anywhere on your device's screen, above the recent apps list to return once again to your home page.
Tap the app's icon from the home screen and it will now begin afresh, and any issues you previously had should be gone!

      iOS 7

Press the Home button (the physical button on your device) to close the app and return to your device's home page.
Double click the home button to reveal the recent apps list at the bottom of the screen.
The app you want to reset should be the first on this list, on the left.
Flick the screenshot of the app up to the top of the screen and out of your life forever! (Well, not forever, just till you restart it again)
Press the Home button (the physical button on your device) to return to your device's home page.
Tap the app's icon from the home screen and it will now begin afresh, and any issues you previously had should be gone!

  23. Hi Sarah, sorry about the sound!

It’s the app’s one bugbear, and one that I have had very little luck in fixing. Every time I think it’s gone, it just comes back! It’s a problem with the middleware engine that I use to make the apps, so I can only wait for them to fix it once and for all, but can do nothing myself. In truth, I’ve been waiting for a couple of years now, and I think it’s such a small percentage that are affected that they never seem to get around to addressing it… also, I’m not really convinced that they have any idea how to fix it… I certainly don’t :[ Unfortunately it just happens sporadically to some people, and sometimes a restart fixes it, and sometimes it doesn’t, so all I can do is apologise.

I know you’ve already tried this, but I’m afraid it’s the only suggestion I can really make, other than refreshing the whole iPad through iTunes, but who ever wants to do that?!

Please follow these instructions to properly restart the app...

    How to reset your app.

Most problems regarding erratic or unexpected behaviour within any given app can be solved by fully restarting the app using the following method. • Tap the app's icon from the home screen and it will now begin afresh, and any issues you previously had should be gone!

If it’s still silent, obviously please arrange a refund, but I can’t give it personally, you need to go to the App Store and Apple will refund you. Please follow this link for instructions on how to get a refund…

One last thing you might check for is to see if switching the small switch on the top let of your device helps? Next to the volume buttons - it’s multipurpose, and one of those purposes is to mute the sound..?

    1. Hi Leolson, sorry for your trouble, and extra sorry that I really won't be updating the app for quite some time, if ever again :l
YouTube videos have really taken over my time these days, so I am not going to have the time to update the apps - even a small change such as fixing that link would take me a good few weeks what with ramping back up the app side of things and remembering where everything is and how to do things - which, themselves, have probably changed by now, so I'd have to do some relearning too. All in all, I'm sorry to say that updating the app right now is actually quite a bit more trouble than it's worth. I wouldn't rule it out completely some time in the next decade, but definitely not in the next year or two. Sorry - hope it's ok for you otherwise though, and thanks for getting in touch.
